Wyndham Cup: Day One Midday Report

The
2013 Wyndham Cup kicked off Tuesday morning with four-ball matches.

Both
teams secured points as the first match was halved. Zachary Bauchou and Max
Greyserman of the East Team took an early 2-up lead through No. 7. Jacob Solomon
and Collin Morikawa of the West Team battled back throughout the day. On No.
16, Solomon drained a long putt to even the match at all square. The West Team
stayed with their East Team competitors through No. 17 and recovered from a ball
in the hazard on No. 18 to halve the match and receive the first points of the
Wyndham Cup.

Mai
Dechathipat of the East Team came out ready to play in the sixth match of the
morning carding consecutive birdies on Nos. 3 and 4 to go 2-up. Mai and teammate
Karen Arimoto parred the next two holes to maintain their lead. Dechathipat
made another birdie on No. 7 to extend their lead, 3-up. Arimoto followed on
No. 8 with a par to gain a 4-up advantage. The duo kept that lead through No.
15 to win the match, 4 and 3.

 

Five
of the 10 matches Tuesday morning were decided before playing a full 18 holes.
The West Team won three matches in less than 18 holes and the East Team won two
matches in that fashion. Additionally, three matches were halved, making the
final score after the morning matches: East Team 4.5, West Team 5.5.
