A hole-in-one is hard to come by and is never forgotten. Wednesday morning, Jake McBride of Hartville, Ohio, made his mark and joined the hole-in-one club on No. 10 at Eagle Point Golf Club.

Playing with teammate Henry Do of Ypsilanti, Mich., McBride stepped up to the 10th tee with 190 yards between him and the flag with the wind was blowing in his face. His club of choice was a 4-iron as he knew a big cut would be needed to attack the back-right hole location.

“It looked good the whole time,” said McBride, who has compiled a 2-0-1 record in his Wyndham Cup debut. “I watched it hit, bounce and heard it hit the pin. You couldn’t see anything, so I figured it bounced up and hit the pin and fell down.”

As McBride and Do entered the 10th hole 2-up in their match, the ace was just what they needed to ignite the momentum that would help them win their morning foursome match, 2 and 1.

The Ohio native was thrilled to get his first-ever hole-in-one on such a high level of competition.

“It’s exciting to have the opportunity to be here, let alone get your first hole-in-one here,” McBride said. “The fact that I executed the shot the way I was supposed to is pretty cool.”
