A Trader Joe’s Island Cookout Tradition

Posted on Updated on

At almost any AJGA tournament you’ll find a cookout and social activity. However, at the Trader Joe’s Junior Championship hosted by Pat Hurst at Castlewood Country Club, you’ll find a Hawaiian luau. From lei necklaces to Maui-style short ribs, this pool party cookout had players and parents feeling island-like.

Listening to a live band under the California sun with a cool glass of Trader Joe’s Papaya Nectar had staff and juniors not wanting to leave the course. Starting it off with the limbo, then musical chairs and on to the first junior into the pool contest, this cookout had something for everyone. Saving the best for last, the night wrapped up with a hula-hoop contest. This contest featured former eighth grade hula champion and communications staff member Jeremy Joseph. Although Joseph did not claim the cookout hula champ title, he did his best. Joseph was out hula’d by AJGA junior Stephanie Lau of Fullerton, Calif.

Anyone can host a fun Hawaiian-themed cookout. Head to your local Trader Joe’s store to stock up on everything you need… there is plenty of summer left!
