A day of firsts

Posted on Updated on

Sunday was the final day at The Masters where the best golfers in the world were competing, but on The Masters Course at Brookhaven Country Club, one Arizona native made her own impressive strides in the world of junior golf.

In her first AJGA appearance, Kassidy Long-Goheen, of Mesa, Ariz., nailed a hole-in-one on No. 6 during the final round of the Preseason Junior at Brookhaven in Dallas. Long-Goheen was thrilled to play in her first AJGA event, but even more excited to make her first hole-in-one after a weekend full of high winds and fast greens.

After she finished in the scoring tent on No. 18, I interviewed Long-Goheen to hear about how her day went. Full of smiles, Long-Goheen was definitely happy about her performance over the past two days.

“I didn’t even know that I had a hole-in-one at first,” Long-Goheen said. “When I teed off, I thought for sure I had hit the ball too hard and it had sailed over the green.”

Long-Goheen dreaded the walk uphill to the par-3 hole, mentally preparing herself for what she believed was a poor first shot. When she approached the green, she realized that her shot had actually been dead on.

“I was so excited!” Long-Goheen said. “I couldn’t believe it. The Masters Course had really been a struggle for me all weekend and I couldn’t have been happier.”

Long-Goheen shot a 15-over-par 161 for a fourth place finish at the Preseason Junior at Brookhaven.

Jaleel Adatia, of Spring, Texas, also notched his first hole-in-one Sunday on No. 17 of The Masters Course.
